Singapore - Animals

On a recent trip to Singapore I managed to get some time to visit the Singapore Zoo. I got the chance to pretend I was a wild life photographer for the day and managed to capture some great resource material for my illustration.
While studying these creatures from behind the lens I witnessed a rather hilarious attack by two sneaky red parrots (bandits) on one unsuspecting sloth. Poor sloth was just sleeping soundly and kept getting pecked on the head by these two mischief makers! Needless to say he got a bit sick and tired of the harassment and moved on - rather quickly for a sloth I say!
This was my favourite character.. I think Ill call him 'Neville the Ring-tailed Lemur'.
Im afraid I cant recall the name of this wee animal (any one know?) - kind of a pygmy deer of some kind? Less than 30cm high he quietly and politely cross the path in front of us and had the thinest legs I've ever seen!
I have more of these photos on my website and news post, including pictures of orangutan and white tigers. So many beautiful creatures - very inspiring!

Too Long to Tell

Oh my poor forgotten blog.. I am so sorry for neglecting you for so long! Lots has happened obviously... Murals, Giants and a Trip to Singapore - the most recent. Most of that you can find here on my website blog. So I shall just start here again with the latest news... I am part of this up and coming exhibition based on folk tales and dreams. Its called 40 Winks and opens next Friday the 6th July at Draw Inc gallery, Alexander St, Hamilton. Lots of great local illustrators are involved so it should be such great fun!  I have made a series of giclee prints based on an Inuit folk tale about a Hunter and a Polar Bear - with many legs!

Heads

Sorry for the long radio silence. I have been away on work/holiday and shifted house over the past few months. I now have a stack of cool memories and a suitcase full of clothes while we wait for our new little house to be built. In the meantime work continues ... i have finished another album inlay for Bannerman called Dearly Departed and Im currently working on more illustrations for Holly Brown Cafe in Hong kong.

Above is one of several birthday card illustrations I made earlier this year for a company called The Script House. Will post more soon.

The Isles

These are a series of images I made around the idea of sand saucers - which I used to make when I was a child. I've had these wee characters wandering around in my sketchbook for a while so it was good to find them a home at last.

Currently working on my first solo illustration show - its a bit scary but thankfully the gallery is only a small one so it feels not so scary.. :)
It opens in May so I better get my skates on - off to the framers tomorrow!! eek!

To the Side

This is my Great Grandmother riding side saddle. Wish we still used horses to get around although this style of riding never looked that comfortable to me.

Here and there...
